Shooters!

Is Battlefield 3 coming to the Nintendo 3DS?

The answer is maybe, after what appears to be a leak on Electronic Arts Portuguese website has been discovered. The site’s Battlefield 3 page, which can be viewed here, clearly shows nintendo’s 3ds as a listed platform for the game.

What this actually means isn’t clear yet, and it cant be ruled out as a typo. There is however also rumour that Battlefield 3 is planning to be released on Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U, so what it is a typo for is unclear. However companies such as Ubisoft have already expressed interest in the Wii U, bringing big budget titles previously available for only Xbox 360 and PS3 such as Assassin’s Creed to Nintendo’s new console. Hopefully EA will also support the new system, and Battlefield would be a welcome addition to the small amount of currently announced Wii U titles.

Of course it could just be a mistake, and Nintendo fans may be out of luck in hoping to receive one of the most highly anticipated First Person Shooters currently in development. It does however arise questions regarding what exactly to expect from a Battlefield 3DS game. Would EA plan on releasing the same console experience? Or an entirely new Battlefield game or spin-off? Currently the Nintendo 3DS has no First Person Shooters, and such a blockbuster title would surely benefit the poor sales of the system.

However, Assassins Creed Lost Legacy has already been cancelled, and the current third party support for the console is weak. On top of this recently released StarFox has seen modes sales in Japan. Despite this Japanese sales of the actual 3DS system are reportedly up this week, no doubt because of the release of a red coloured 3DS.
